What Saju is

Saju reads a birth moment as four pairs of Chinese characters — a year, month, day and hour pillar. Eight characters in total, which is why it is also called the Four Pillars of Destiny.

Western astrology sorts people into twelve sun signs. Saju does not: the four pillars combine into 518,400 distinct charts, and the reading starts from the heavenly stem of your day pillar, called the Day Master.

It is a traditional interpretive system with a long written record. We treat it as a lens for self-reflection, not as a forecast.

How we keep this honest

We do not publish an accuracy figure. There is no meaningful one to publish for a traditional interpretive system, and we would rather show the calculation than claim a number.

Questions

Do I need my exact birth time?
For the full reading, yes. Without a birth time we can produce three of the four pillars, and the hour pillar and everything that depends on it will be unavailable. We do not sell a partial reading.
Why does the time zone matter so much?
Because the rules that changed over the last century actually move the chart. Korea used a different standard time until 1961 and ran summer time in 1987 and 1988. We apply the rule that was in force on your birth date, not today’s.
Is this a prediction?
No. Korean Saju is a traditional interpretive practice. We use it for self-reflection, not as a forecast, and we do not make claims about health, money, or relationships as future facts.
Do you keep my birth details?
The free chart is calculated in your browser. Your birth date, time and city are not sent anywhere to produce it.
What do I get if I pay?
Seven areas read against your own chart, each citing the part of the chart it came from, as a PDF, uploaded to your Etsy order within 24 hours. One-time purchase, no subscription.

Three questions

No account. Your birth details stay in your browser.

1 When were you born?

Calendar

Your birth date sets the year and month pillars.

2 What time?

Enter the local clock time where you were born, as it was written down.

3 Where?

If your birth city is not listed, choose the nearest one. Each degree of longitude shifts the reading by four minutes of solar time, so a city within about 100 km gives the same chart unless your birth moment sits within minutes of a boundary. Your result page shows the correction that was applied, so you can see how close you are.

Your birth city determines the time zone rule we apply and the true solar time correction for your longitude. We apply that correction by default.
